One of our clients recently penned a blog detailing her unforgettable Costa Rica vacation in Playa Samara with Desafio Adventure Company. This family trip turned into a transformative adventure, providing her with a unique perspective on the world.
While planning a perfect September getaway, stress overwhelmed me with questions about the ‘Who, Where, What, and How’ of my Costa Rica vacation. Thankfully, Suresh from Desafio Adventure Company came to the rescue, planning our entire trip, from the hotel to activities. His suggestion to explore Samara, a charming beach town in Guanacaste, turned out to be a hidden gem.
Our adventure began with the Desafio Adventure Connection, a scenic drive to Samara Beach with a Safari Float along the Tenorio River. This dual-purpose journey not only transported us to Samara but also provided an adventure-packed experience in just 5 days!
The Safari Float offered a serene alternative to traditional rafting, allowing us to connect with the Costa Rican rainforest. Witnessing howler monkeys, tropical birds, and crocodiles was a mesmerizing experience.
Our stay in Samara at the Belvedere Hotel, owned by a welcoming German family, exceeded expectations. The hotel’s picturesque gardens, eclectic décor, refreshing pool, and delicious breakfasts showcased their dedication to hospitality.
Venturing into more adventures, we joined Samara Adventure Company’s Kayak and Snorkel adventure to Chora Island. Anchoring our kayaks to a coral reef, we marveled at octopuses, starfish, sea snakes, and vibrant fish. It was truly a breathtaking underwater spectacle.
Evenings were spent at Talambuco restaurant, savoring the best ceviche with our feet in the sand, watching the sunset – Que Rico!
Stand Up Paddle Boarding became a personal favorite, challenging me amid the ocean waves. Our guide, Fabrizio from Samara Adventure Company, ensured a patient and supportive experience, leading us to a calm inlet where gratitude overflowed.
Samara’s beauty extends beyond nature – it’s the friendly people, diverse cultures, and an array of activities that make it exceptional. The fusion of cultures, influenced by the Intercultura Spanish Language school and tourism, is reflected in unique restaurants, art galleries, music, and activities, maintaining Costa Rica’s cultural essence.
While new activities like Yoga and Stand Up Paddle Boarding reflect global influences, the desire for traditional Costa Rican activities like surfing, river kayaking, and beach horseback riding remains strong.
Dining options cater to diverse tastes – from Mexican and Vegetarian to Italian or classic burgers and fries. Traditional Costa Rican casado remains in high demand. Nights offer a variety of parties and music, from reggae to top 40 English tunes, and Latin nights for learning Salsa, Merengue, and Cumbia.
On our final night, a solo beach walk led me to an old, seemingly discarded piece of wood. Inspired, I transformed it into artwork, embodying the quote ‘always look on the bright side of life.’ Samara not only turned my stress into inspiration but also became a catalyst for renewed happiness.
