General Information About Rio Celeste Guided Hike
Embark on an incredible journey to Rio Celeste National Park, just a picturesque 1.5-hour drive from Arenal Volcano through serene rural villages. The Rio Celeste waterfall, nestled in the vicinity of the Tenorio and Miravalles Volcanoes, has emerged as a highly sought-after destination for hiking enthusiasts visiting Costa Rica. Upon arrival, our adventure commences with a guided hike through the luxuriant and densely forested terrain enveloping Tenorio National Park. You'll have the freedom to set your own pace, all the while gaining fascinating insights into the rainforest's rich tapestry from your expert nature guide.
When we arrive at Los Tenideros, where two rivers come together, you'll be amazed at the celestial turquoise blue water color that comes from the waterfall.
Local legend as explained by members of the Maleku indigenous group of the area claim that God was painting the sky a celestial blue color and reached down to dip his brush to turn the river its magical blue color.
For a more scientific explanation, this mesmerizing celestial blue is born from minerals suspended in the water—aluminum, silicon, and oxygen—refracting sunlight to create the enchanting azure flow.
Prepare your cameras, for this is the perfect locale to capture indelible memories of Costa Rica's unforgettable blue waterfall!
We'll finish off with a delicious lunch at a local restaurant before we transport you back to La Fortuna in our comfortable Desafio vans. This Costa Rican hike typically spans 1.5 to 2 hours, covering approximately 6 km (3 miles), and is rated as a moderate hike.
Please note: The Rio Celeste blue waterfall may lose its azure hue during rainstorms. Our policy is to provide clients with weather updates on the day of the tour, with the option to reschedule or select an alternative tour if rain is expected. Regrettably, refunds are not issued for inclement weather, and swimming is not permitted in the river.
